Salony Luthra to play female lead in Hollywood film Forbidden


The Sarabham actress has been cast as the lead for Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. assistant director, Vibha Gulati's English film.

Actress Salony Luthra, who played the female lead in the Tamil film Sarabham (2014), has been cast as the female lead in a Hollywood film.The actress will play the lead in Vibha Gulati's English project.

Gulati, who has previously been an assistant director in several Hindi films including Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003), is turning director with a Hollywood project, Forbidden. The director announced that Luthra will play the female lead in her film.

A source said, "Vibha was looking for someone who acts well and can play an Indian born in America. The character is very strong and the script demanded the character to perform some action sequences. Salony was an appropriate choice and successfully passed the tests too."

Salony will play an American medical student of Indian origin in the film. “It is about a girl who goes by her heart and pays a heavy price for it. It is based on a true story and when I read it, it shocked me. Here again, I auditioned. This time via Skype when I was in Budapest for an international project. Once again, the makers felt that my body language suited the character, but were not convinced by my accent. They offered me the role on the condition that I had to develop an accent in a stipulated time,” said Luthra, who also disclosed that she spent three weeks in the US to work on her accent.‹

"I was confident about all the other required elements for the role, but wanted to get the American accent right. For that, I researched and spent three weeks in the US," she added.

Meawhile, Luthra's feminist Hindi short film, Kajal, directed by Pakhi Tyrewala, will also premiere in New York. It looks like the actress is all set to move stateside for a while.
