Over the last few years, superstar Salman Khan has become a smarter businessman. He has been launching various products in the market under his brand name. Now, he is all set to launch his own smartphone venture. As per latest reports, he has registered it in the name of BeingSmart, after his famous charity organisation, Being Human.
Reports also mention that he will target the entry-to-middle market segment. The phones will have the Android Operation System and will be priced below Rs20,000. He has already selected a Chinese plant for the project.
The Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor may hold a majority of shares in the venture directly or through his family. He is currently building a leadership team headed by people who have worked with some top smartphone brands.
A publication has quoted a source saying, “BeingSmart will be positioned against the Chinese smartphone brigade — Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi — at a time when domestic handset makers such as Micromax and Intex are facing tremendous competition.”
The report also stated that Khan thought about this idea a couple of years ago. But few brands backed out after the actor reportedly demanded high royalty. An executive working with Salman told the publication, “But this time, Salman is himself driving the show and searching for an investor. He expects to launch the devices in the next two quarters and definitely before the festive season.”
Under the Being Human banner, Khan is already into the business of clothing, cycles and films. He also has a mobile app. It is said that, like his other businesses, the earnings from the BeingSmart venture would go towards his Being Human charity.
