The controversial filmmaker raised a Women's Day storm on Twitter by hoping all women give their men as much joy as Sunny Leone does.

Ram Gopal Varma tends to court trouble with his tweets. If he is not mocking fellow filmmakers and actors, then he is invoking the wrath of the trolls. On International Women's Day, the maverick filmmaker decided to rile women with a sexist and misogynistic tweet.
Varma posted a series of intriguing tweets, none more controversial than this one:
I wish all the women in the world give men as much happiness as Sunny Leone gives
— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) March 8, 2017
Only Varma can explain what he meant by that statement. The former porn actress saw the lighter side of the tweet.
@RGVzoomin ðÂÂÂðÂÂÂðÂÂÂð ;) ha
— Sunny Leone (@SunnyLeone) March 8, 2017
But other netizens weren’t as pleased and came down hard on Varma. Here is a sampling of the angry tweets that Varma was bombarded with, some even making strong personal remarks. Among those who hit back was Southern film director Lakshmy Ramakrishnan.
All the women in the world wish you @RGVzoomin to continue giving attention to virtual reality sparing the real world of your assholery

.@RGVzoomin Including your Mom, sisters & daughter? If you are fortunate enough to have! Or is it they are unfortunate enough!!!
— Lakshmy Ramakrishnan (@LakshmyRamki) March 8, 2017
Hope ur Mother too gave men what Sunny leone is giving to everyone.. ð @RGVzoomin https://t.co/5uNBL4wd8J

@RGVzoomin i wish all the man have to learn to live freedomly like rgv instead of begging freedom from women

One user was even left aghast how Varma’s tweet received so many likes.
@LakshmyRamki @RGVzoomin I'm shocked that 2902 people liked his tweet and 668 of them shared it... It's a shame... ðÂÂÂ

Another pointed out that she would have appreciated Varma’s post if only men, too, gave their women as much happiness.
@RGVzoomin that will be fun only if the men would give as much happiness in return. Solo performance doesn't make a good act. ;)

Seeing the backlash from trolls, Varma then defended himself with another aggressive tweet.
The negative noise towards my tweet on @SunnyLeone arises from ultimate hypocrisy. She has more honesty and more self respect than any woman
— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) March 8, 2017
The Twitter storm had started when Varma said Women’s Day should also be called Men’s Day because men celebrate women much more than women celebrate themselves.
Women's day should be called #MensDay because men celebrate women much more than women celebrate women
— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) March 8, 2017
While that was still fine, Varma was bound to incense the ladies with what followed:
Women on atleast #MensDay should not nag or scream and atleast give some freedom to men
— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) March 8, 2017
One netizen slammed Varma for trying to create unnecessary controversy.
@RGVzoomin I think men like you should stop fishing for controversies at least on #internationalwomensday & we need no favors from men today

We leave it to you to make what you will of Varma’s tweets, but there is no denying that he is seen as sexist and misogynist. In the past, Varma has openly declared that he loves watching pornography and also made his fascination with Sunny Leone obvious.
With Sarkar 3 set to be released next month, perhaps the filmmaker would do well to refrain from posting such tweets which have the potential of alienating half his audience. That he desperately needs a hit is not a secret.
