Ram Gopal Varma gets trolled for sexist tweet involving Sunny Leone

Ram Gopal Varma tends to court trouble with his tweets. If he is not mocking fellow filmmakers and actors, then he is invoking the wrath of the trolls. On International Women's Day, the maverick filmmaker decided to rile women with a sexist and misogynistic tweet.

Varma posted a series of intriguing tweets, none more controversial than this one:

Only Varma can explain what he meant by that statement. The former porn actress saw the lighter side of the tweet.

But other netizens weren’t as pleased and came down hard on Varma. Here is a sampling of the angry tweets that Varma was bombarded with, some even making strong personal remarks. Among those who hit back was Southern film director Lakshmy Ramakrishnan.

One user was even left aghast how Varma’s tweet received so many likes.

Another pointed out that she would have appreciated Varma’s post if only men, too, gave their women as much happiness.

Seeing the backlash from trolls, Varma then defended himself with another aggressive tweet.

The Twitter storm had started when Varma said Women’s Day should also be called Men’s Day because men celebrate women much more than women celebrate themselves.

One netizen slammed Varma for trying to create unnecessary controversy.

We leave it to you to make what you will of Varma’s tweets, but there is no denying that he is seen as sexist and misogynist. In the past, Varma has openly declared that he loves watching pornography and also made his fascination with Sunny Leone obvious.

With Sarkar 3 set to be released next month, perhaps the filmmaker would do well to refrain from posting such tweets which have the potential of alienating half his audience. That he desperately needs a hit is not a secret.
