A few days ago, Karan Johar made headlines for slamming Kangana Ranaut over the latter’s nepotism jibe on Koffee With Karan. Speaking at an event at the London School of Economics, Johar had asked Ranaut to stop acting like a victim or leave the industry. Little did the filmmaker imagine that these comments would come back to bite him. However, the backlash has not come from Ranaut, but a Twitter user, Shreya Ila Anasuya who has slammed the filmmaker in a series of tweets.
It all began with this tweet:
I am so done with Karan Johar's bullshit.

Anasuya didn’t mince words in her next tweet. She not only accused Johar of nepotism, but also slammed the director for not being able to handle Ranaut’s jibe.
Makes patriarchal films, practices nepotism, and can't handle it when someone who's not from his cosy inner circle calls him out.

So easy to say 'If you don't like it, leave it' to someone who doesn't have your immense privileges, Karan Johar.

The next tweet was more vicious with the girl reminding Johar that he is no saint.
For the record, you're not some saint for not censoring Kangana Ranaut's (accurate and insightful) views about Bollywood's poisonous elitism

... and the part that you yourself play in it. You have to recognise what happens when the production of art and culture is so easy for only

The last few tweets underlined the alleged Bollywood biases, urging the filmmaker to look at his own privileges.
a few people. Large swathes of people in this country are held back by their gender, caste, sexuality, class, ability, and other factors.

When you make it about one individual and make them the problem it's your own ignorance and smugness you're showing.
— Shreya Ila Anasuya (@shreyilaanasuya) March 6, 2017
In summation, check your privilege, Karan Johar.

While Johar's comments asking Ranaut to stop being a victim or leave the industry may be a tad harsh, it's unfair to overlook that he has launched over a dozen directors who had no godfathers in the industry. Along with star kids Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, Johar also gave a break to an outsider like Sidharth Malhotra in Student Of The Year (2012).
Despite the plethora of tweets, Johar has so far not responded to the girl. The filmmaker is currently basking in the glory of becoming a father to twins through surrogacy.
