Swara Bhaskar on bold scenes in Anaarkali Of Aarah: Nothing has been stuffed distastefully

Some bold scenes from Swara Bhaskar’s upcoming film, Anaarkali Of Aarah were leaked online last week. The sequences featured the actress being sexually abused in various ways. There was no reaction from the makers or anyone associated with the film. 

But Bhaskar has now justified the presence of the scenes in the film during the music launch of the film in Delhi. “Every song, every line, every dance number in the film, every ‘bold’ scene in the film has been shot due to a specific reason. This is a brave film, provokes you to ask questions," she said. 

Bhaskar also said that the film shouldn’t be judged by watching scenes out of context. “Nothing in the film has been put out of context. Nothing has been stuffed distastefully. If you see things without any context, you are bound to be mistaken,” she added. 

With the presence of such bold scenes, there are also talks that the film might have a tough time with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The board recently refused to certify Lipstick Under My Burkha for being ‘lady-oriented’ and bold. 

The actress slammed the CBFC for its diktat while hailing the film’s producer for taking on such subjects. “Kudos to independent producers like Sandeep Kapoor who are changing Bollywood. Such producers have faith in scripts like Anaarkali of Aarah. Then studios jump in to acquire them. They are doing a brave job. The censor board is putting them under scanner way before the release. It is bad as they are already in a vulnerable state,” she said. 

Anaarkali Of Aarah is the story of a singer who sings sexually suggestive songs at parties in Delhi. The film also looks at the abuse faced by such performers.
