Since late last night, the industry has been in a tizzy over the news of Karan Johar's new-found paternal instincts. The director-producer became father to a pair of twins through surrogacy. Though the formalities concluded last month, Johar confirmed the news yesterday night. Expressing his gratitude to the surrogate mother who helped fulfil his 'lifelong dream', Johar said that it was an 'emotional yet well thought out decision.'

Johar's children are named Yash, after his late father, and Roohi, an anagram of his mother Hiroo. The producer-director put out a tweet on his personal account making a formal announcement.

This makes Johar the latest in a line of celebrities to enter parenthood through surrogacy. It also brought forth a number of gushing congratulations for the new father from his friends in the industry.

Johar's close friend and confidante, Shah Rukh Khan, spoke to reporters at the Mijwan Charity Fashion Show in Mumbai, about the news. He said, "We wish him happiness. But it’s still very personal. So, don’t think that I am being cagey by not answering about it. I have had this moment in my life so I know how personal it is. So, let’s respect it and leave it to that. We will have love, celebrations, happiness and health later."

Khan himself became a father through surrogacy to his youngest child, AbRam in 2013. It is little surprise then, that the actor understands Johar's need for privacy and quiet.

Sushmita Sen sent out a video wishing the director on his courageous decision.

Johar's protege and actors Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt were particularly thrilled at the arrival of the twins.

Priyanka Chopra took to Twitter immediately to send in her wishes to her Dostana producer.

The other single father in the industry, Tusshar Kapoor tweeted his congratulations to Johar as well.

Long time friend, Farah Khan, too sent her congratulations.

Sushant Singh Rajput, Sonali Bendre Behl, Ritesh Deshmukh and Ronit Roy too sent their best wishes.

Congratulations Karan Johar!
