Megastar Amitabh Bachchan refused to share his views on Gurmehar Kaur controversy, wherein the 20-year-old was threatened and abused online for sharing an anti-war message. But filmmaker Kabir Khan has openly voiced his opinion on the issue and demanded legal action against the culprits.
The Bajrangi Bhaijaan director was speaking at a theatre festival organised by the well-known casting director, Mukesh Chhabra. “You feel really angry. The way we are supposed to conduct ourselves in the society has completely broken down over this social networking. It is unbelievable that someone can issue such threats to a 20-year-old girl and get away with it. It’s criminal. The only way to counter this is to throw those guys in the jail,” he said.
Gurmehar is the daughter of a martyred soldier. Her old anti-war message had recently resurfaced where she has expressed that it was war that had killed her father and not Pakistan. Her old comments were dug out by Right Wing supporters after she posted an anti-ABVP message for their violent behaviour recently at Delhi’s Ramjas College.
The girl also received rape threats online. In fact, India’s Minister of Home Affairs, Kiran Rijiju, also tweeted that someone is polluting her mind, although he has now admitted that he is not aware about Kaur’s comments and the context in which she made them.
