First-time filmmaker Anshai Lal’s Phillauri has broken even at the box office. The Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma-starrer has earned Rs20.25 crore approximately, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The film opened by earning only Rs3.75 crore on the first day. However, the collections didn’t show much improvement on Saturday and Sunday, which is always vital for any film. Phillauri ended the first weekend with a figure of Rs14 crore.
On Monday, the film saw a drop and earned only Rs1.75 crore. The public holiday (Gudi Padwa/Ugadi) on Tuesday also didn’t help as the film earned exactly the same amount it did on Monday.
The film managed decent earnings in Punjab and Delhi due to the subject and the presence of popular Punjabi actor-singer Dosanjh. But they weren’t significant enough to make the producers smile.
Phillauri is reportedly made at a budget of around Rs21 crore and as it enters its second weekend, looks to recover its cost.
Last Friday also saw the release of Swara Bhaskar’s Anaarkali Of Aarah. Its collections are too low to mention. It earned a dismal Rs10 lakh on its opening day.
On the other hand, Dharma Productions' Badrinath Ki Dulhania continued its good run by earning Rs10.50 crore in its third week. The grand total of the Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt-starrer currently stands at an impressive Rs109 crore approximately.
