Director Apoorva Lakhia's gangland drama, Haseena, revolving around the life of Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar, brings together siblings Shraddha and Siddhant Kapoor. The duo will be playing real life siblings — Haseena and Dawood on screen.
Parkar as a subject is an interesting one because she is said to have single-handedly run her brother's Rs1,000-crore underworld empire in Mumbai. Parkar had 88 cases registered against her but was taken to court only once in her life.
It is a very important role for Shraddha and will really test her as an actress as she will be portraying Haseena’s life from 17 to 43.
The shooting of the film took 45 days and was wrapped up recently. Lakhia, whose Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007) was also based on Mumbai's underworld, said that he had to recreate the 1980s and 1990s from scratch as shooting in real locations was not possible.
“As it was impossible to shoot on real locations, our job became more difficult as we had to recreate the exact sets as per the photos we had of over four decades. Shraddha and Siddhanth were amazing together and their scenes have turned out to be fantastic. They were both committed to their roles and never complained even when Shraddha had to sit for hours in make-up.”
Let's hope that the sets look authentic as it could affect the experience of this retro film.
Haseena is slated to be released on 14 July.
