The positive response to Phillauri has turned Diljit Dosanjh into Anushka Sharma's lucky mascot. Or so it seems. Dosanjh confirmed that he will be a part of Sharma's upcoming production, Kaneda. The film will also see the Phillauri pair of Dosanjh and Sharma in the lead roles.
The actor told DNA that director Navdeep Singh had approached him for the role, and he immediately agreed. Dosanjh said, "It's very different from what people have seen me doing. I loved the story of Kaneda. Bohut hi powerful hai story iss film ki (the story of the film is very powerful)."
The popularity of the actor has also contributed extensively to the success of Phillauri in the northern regions of the country. His performances in successive films like Udta Punjab (2016) and Phillauri (2017) has earned him some credibility in the market as well.
Dosanjh was also rumoured to have signed on for the Akshay Kumar-Salman Khan project. However, the actor denied those rumours. Speaking to PTI, Dosanjh said, "Those are wrong reports. I am not doing anything in it. It's a big film and a big subject. I am not in the film but there is excitement for Anurag. He is an amazing person and I am very happy for him."
The rumours stemmed from the fact that the film starring the two superstars was to be directed by Anurag Singh, who previously helmed Jatt and Juliet (2012), a film that launched Diljit Dosanjh into stardom.
Earlier this month, Salman Khan had confirmed the news of collaborating with Akshay Kumar and Karan Johar on the untitled project.
Diljit Dosanjh is also preparing for the release of Super Singh, a Punjabi film produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, later this year.
