Parineeti Chopra made her debut as a singer for Akshay Roy's Meri Pyaari Bindu. Titled 'Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin', the song is a nostalgic and bittersweet ode to a lost friendship. The song released on Tuesday and received quite the appreciation online.

While Parineeti seems to be following in the footsteps of cousin Priyanka Chopra, she comes across as a confident singer. The mellow rhythm of the song serves well to elevate Parineeti's voice.

Sachiin-Jigar's music eschews from any overt technical features, adding to the simple beauty of the song. Kausar Munir's lyrics are tinged with the right balance of nostalgia and hope. The song is nuanced in its expression of love and moving on from a relationship.

In many ways, 'Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin' is a gentle reminder to the era of pop ghazals that were all the rage on television. The pace and soft music is also a refreshing change from the fast-paced remixes that have been invading the chartbuster lists.

This is Parineeti's debut as a singer, and it is quite good. She has already received appreciation from the other, and senior, playback singer in the family, Priyanka.

Meri Pyaari Bindu stars Parineeti and Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead roles, and is directed by Akshay Roy. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on 12 May.
