Looks like controversies are in vogue in the Tamil film industry. After the row over Rajinikanth's proposed visit to Sri Lanka, Singam star Suriya has caught the attention of the political class.
It began with the sudden appearance of a video clip on the internet in which Suriya is seen praying in a mosque dressed in traditional Muslim attire. Immediately, questions were raised by rumour mongers if he had converted to Islam.
Clarifying the matter, Suriya's public relations officer said, "The video happened when Singam 2 was being shot. Suriya was shooting in Cuddapah [Andhra Pradesh] then and AR Rahman invited him to a mosque nearby. The video was recorded when he was praying there. It's an old video. Suriya hasn’t converted to Islam. The news being spread is false."
Suriya is working on Thaana Serndha Kootam, opposite Keerthy Suresh. The film is being directed by Vignesh Shivan.
Reports also suggest that the star is a front-runner for the role of 'Gemini' Ganesan in Nadigayar Thilagam, a biopic on yesteryear actress Savithri. The role, sources suggest, will be a cameo.
