After establishing himself as a leading voice of the new generation of stars in Tamil cinema, Dhanush has now turned director with Power Paandi. The trailer of the film, also written by Dhanush, has been released and received much appreciation online. The trailer carries a touch of a blockbuster with an emotional underlay adding an interesting colour.
Power Paandi tells the story of a rough-and-tough Pandian Pazhanisami (Rajkiran) entering his 64th year with the same enthusiasm for life as ever. The trailer offers glimpses of the action-packed punches that Rajkiran was once famous for, and the actor manages to carry the scenes with conviction.
The story of the film revolves around Paandi's discovery of love in the autumn of his life, with a character played by Revathi. The veteran actress still carries touches of that delightful personality which made her a heartthrob in Mani Ratnam's Mouna Ragam (1986).
As the two elders try to live their own life, outside the circle of their grandchildren and family, they find themselves relegated to secondary citizens in their own family. The trailer focuses on the disapproval faced by the couple from their families, society and the struggle to find companionship. Director Dhanush makes a special appearance at the end of the trailer, something that might raise the interest among his fans for the film.
Power Paandi is a more emotional film than the title suggests. Dhanush's story seems to carry touches of Gautham Menon (who, incidentally, will be making a cameo appearance in the film) than his mentor and brother Selvaraghavan. The film has a solid cast of actors with Prasanna, Madonna Sebastien and Chaya Singh in pivotal roles.
Though he has denied it, the trailer suggests Dhanush might make a cameo appearance in the film as well. The film is produced by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films and is scheduled for a theatrical release on 14 April.
