Alia Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt get 'death threats', file police complaint 

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and daughter actress Alia Bhatt were at the receiving end of threatening phone calls from an unidentified caller last week. The caller demanded that the director deposit Rs50 lakh in a Lucknow-based branch. Reports state that the caller suggested that any failure on the filmmaker's part to deliver the money would result in the death of his daughter, Alia and wife Soni Razdan. 

Following the phone call, Mahesh filed a police complaint at the Juhu police station in Mumbai. The filmmaker later took to Twitter to thank the Mumbai and UP police for stepping in and 'nipping' the problem in the bud. 

A source from the Juhu police station, who refused to be named, told Cinestaan.com, "The case is with the anti-extortion cell of the Crime Branch." The Juhu police station registered a complaint from the filmmaker under Section 387 of the Indian Penal Code. From the tweets of Mahesh, it appears that the police acted swiftly.

According to reports, Mahesh received the phone call on 26 February, followed by several threatening messages on Whatsapp and texts. Through the messages, a person claiming to be a gang leader threatened the filmmaker that he would fire a round of bullets at daughter Alia and wife Razdan, if Mahesh failed to deliver the money. 

These threats have emerged two years after more than 13 people belonging to the dreaded 'D gang' were arrested by the Mumbai police in 2014. The gang was planning to eliminate Mahesh and family.
