Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has stunned his fans by saying that he’s playing a negative character in his upcoming film, Phillauri.

"He might be singing sufi, but it’s a negative role. I am happy to try out different roles. I am not scared at all. I am not scared of being typecast either," Dosanjh told Deccan Chronicle newspaper.

Apart from his sufi songs, Dosanjh has also impressed fans with his six-pack abs in the film. However, that wasn’t a requirement of the film.

“I had six-pack abs just before starting the shoot of Phillauri because I had wrapped up a film called Sardarji in Punjabi, that required me to sport those. However, the makers were very clear that for this film, I should not have a muscular body. I was put on a low-fat diet to play a convincing alcoholic,” said Dosanjh.

Phillauri is Dosanjh’s second Hindi film after making his Hindi film debut with Udta Punjab last year. The film also stars Anushka Sharma, Suraj Sharma and Mehreen Pirzada. Anushka is also producing the film which will hit the theatres on 24 March.
