The trailer to the third part of Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar trilogy has Amitabh Bachchan playing the ageing Sarkar entering the battleground himself to rout his enemies.

If Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar 3 is his tribute to Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather series, Amitabh Bachchan is every bit the Al Pacino he needs. The trailer for the concluding part of the Sarkar trilogy has the veteran actor turning back the clock to return to his 'angry old man' mode.

From the introduction, the trailer hinges around the rise of new enemies to Sarkar's empire in the form of Manoj Bajpayee, Yami Gautam and Jackie Shroff's characters. Even Sarkar's own grandson, Shivaji Nagre (Amit Sadh) seems to be at odds with the old man's methods of running the business. Above all, there seems to be a hint at the subtle web of conspiracy and politics weaved by Rukku Bai Devi (played by Rohini Hattangadi) to bring Sarkar down. The film will revolve around Sarkar's fight against these villains, and his battle to keep his legacy together.

The trailer looks taut and well edited. The punchy dialogues, set up by a booming background score build up the tension between the characters. Bachchan is in fine form as the grizzled lion forced to step into the ring once again. He manages to deliver the dialogues with the same intensity and power that made him a delight to watch in the first Sarkar (2005). Bajpayee, Sadh, Ronit Roy and Gautam bring in the intensity necessary to match Bachchan's presence on the screen. There are copious hints to real life inspirations in Bajpayee's muffler wearing rebel politician, or Shroff's corrupt businessman, Michael Vallya. However, the trailer belongs completely to the man at the centre of the film's plot — Bachchan.

Sarkar 3 is directed by Varma and is scheduled for theatrical release on 7 April.
