Actor Suniel Shetty was left bereaved after his father Veerappa T Shetty passed away last night at the age of 93. The senior Shetty was admitted to Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital. Veerappa is survived by his son Suniel, daughter Sujata and grandchildren.
The funeral ceremony of Veerappa will be held on 2 March at 12 noon at the Worli Crematorium, opposite Four Seasons Hotel.
Veerappa had not been keeping well since 2013 after he had suffered a paralytic stroke. The actor had set up an entire ICU at his south Mumbai residence for his father's recovery. This happened around the same time when Suniel’s daughter Athiya had started shooting for Hero, produced by Salman Khan, which released in 2015.
Suniel was close to his father and had paid rich tributes to him in an article in a daily in 2013. Veerappa had humble beginnings, starting his career as a waiter before turning into an established hotelier. The Shettys used to run a hotel named Broadway in Worli. Interestingly, Suniel had bought the restaurant where his father worked and used the premises to open an interior decoration showroom.
“This is where my father, Veerappa Shetty, used to work. He used to clean plates here since he worked as a waiting boy at a restaurant. My father is my real hero. He started working at the age of nine. He used to sleep on flattened mustard sacks and used a rolled-up gunny bag as a pillow,” Suniel had told Hindustan Times newspaper before the launch of his showroom.
Deepest condolences to the Shetty family.
