After 'Ullu Ka Pattha', it's the turn of music composer Pritam's next song, 'Galti Se Mistake' to embed itself in our brains. Starting with an upbeat northeastern tune, 'Galti Se Mistake' moves into a boarding school dormitory where Ranbir Kapoor is cutting a cake with a war cry, before moving outdoors.
Singers Arijit Singh and Amit Mishra bring to life this enjoyable song written by frequent Pritam collaborator, Amitabh Bhattacharya. Bhattacharya's lyrics urge us that 'Yehi umar hai karle, galti se mistake' referring to live life while you're young and make mistakes along the way. The song's title refers, of course, the dialogue from the cult classic Andaz Apna Apna featuring Viju Khote. It's cleverly turned into a life slogan here.
Director Anurag Basu also makes a small cameo in the song as a disguised schoolworker cooking on the side. With a Santa Claus-like hat and beard, Basu is almost unrecognisable as the boys make sport of him.
Ranbir Kapoor is in fine form, reminding us of his earlier charm in the song 'Badtameez Dil', which co-incidentally was also composed by Pritam and written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Playing a young schoolboy, Ranbir dances along with his classmates (in blue chappals no less!). His dancing and the choreography is reminiscent of the older era of Indian cinema from Bhagwan Dada to Shammi Kapoor, Ranbir's grand-uncle.
Co-starring Katrina Kaif, Jagga Jasoos is due to be released on 14 July.
