Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been lucky for Salman Khan. The singer was the voice for Khan's Sultan chartbuster 'Jag Ghoomeya', and returns to voice 'Tinka Tinka Dil Mera' in his upcoming, Tubelight. The song, released today, is an emotional ballad that underlines the pain of the two brothers' separation in the film.
Composed by Pritam, and written by Kausar Munir, the song feels like a soulful ballad, but fails to make an impact. While it is melodious, and carries within it some strong emotional content, it lacks the depth and quality of other emotional numbers like 'Channa Mereya' from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) or a 'Ajj Din Chadheya' from Love Aaj Kal (2009). The composition of the song is quite impressive, and employs a wide range of orchestral music. In fact, Pritam has another composition from Jagga Jasoos releasing today. It seems like the composer has been working on overdrive.
The soaring voice of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan saves the whole composition. The context of the song appears to be the departure of Sohail Khan's character to war, leaving a grieving Salman Khan behind. The scenes of separation and loss are touching, and Khan manages to capture the innocence of his character to a certain extent. The song is also a peek into how the separation from his brother defines his relationship with the little Chinese boy played by Matin Rey Tangu.
Tubelight is directed by Kabir Khan, and produced by Salman Khan Films. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on the Eid weekend this year.
