The decks have been cleared for the smooth release of Dinesh Vijan's Raabta after the Andhra high court dismissed the plagiarism case filed by Geetha Arts.

In their complaint, Allu Aravind, founder of Geetha Arts, had alleged that the Hindi film was lifted from its Telugu blockbuster Magadheera (2009), directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Ram Charan Teja and Kajal Aggarwal.

Both the films have the theme of reincarnation, but the court ruled that didn’t constitute to plagiarism.

“I’m happy that finally this entire thing has ended. I feel somewhere they (Magadheera makers) were misguided. Their arguments were based on just the trailer. Once the arguments were heard in court, we represented our case and showed what is not similar. They have withdrawn the case and I’m happy this had ended. I just feel we are one industry. I have 10 films till now. None of my films were a copy of any film. We’re happy that our film can now release positively,” director Dinesh Vijan told Cinestaan.com.

Meanwhile, sources close to Raaba questioned the real motive of Geetha Arts.

Says the source, “They (Raabta makers) were willing to show him (Allu Aravind) Raabta so he could compare it with Magadheera to ascertain it’s not a copy, but he wasn’t interested.”

“He had sold the rights of Magadheera to be made in Hindi and is may be concerned that since Raabta is also about reincarnation and unrequited love, after its release, no one will want to do a similar genre soon,” said the source, adding, “Maybe I’m wrong but since the aim was to stop the release rather that fight the case correctly.”

The Andhra high court had heard both arguments on Tuesday (6 June) that lasted over five hours.

Raabta is Vijan’s directorial debut and it has Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon in the lead. The film will now release as per schedule tomorrow (9 June).
