VIP 2 teaser: Raghuvaran returns in action mode, but no sign of Kajol yet

The first teaser to Kajol's return to Tamil cinema, Velai iilla Pattathari 2 was released today. The film stars Dhanush and Kajol, and is directed by Soundarya R Ashwin.

The teaser to the film was released by a surprise guest, Amitabh Bachchan. Tweeting about the teaser, Bachchan wrote, 'my friend my co star my friends Son in law .. DHANUSH .. his new film trailer .. all the best'

A close friend of Dhanush's father-in-law Rajinikanth, Bachchan seems to have forgotten that the film is directed by the Tamil superstar's daughter Soundarya. Dhanush, who has also worked on the dialogues and the story of the film, tweeted his thanks.

The teaser looks quite promising, and opens with actor Samuthirakani offering advice to Dhanush's character, Raghuvaran. 'If you don't have enemies, life is boring,' he says (albeit in Tamil). He goes on to talk about how 'villains come and go', a hint at the new villain in the film, Kajol.

The teaser also offers a look at a high powered action sequence, with Dhanush going 'Bruce Lee' on some goons. While the teaser showcases the hero, there is no sign of actress Kajol, who is supposedly playing a rival to Dhanush's character. The film has been hyped up as the actress's return to Tamil cinema, 20 years after the success of Rajiv Menon's Minsara Kanavu (1997).

VIP (2014), as the original came to be called, proved to be quite the success with the film earning the actor his biggest commercial success. The sequel to the film takes off from the premise of Raghuvaran (Dhanush) having established himself as a successful engineer, and finding new rivals in his career.

Velai illa Pattathari 2 is directed by Soundarya and also stars Amala Paul. The film is produced by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films, and is expected to release on 28 July.
