There was something really nice about her: Salman Khan opens up about heartbreak

The actor delved into his personal life during a rare YouTube interview with a teenager.

There is something vulnerable about Salman Khan. His fans would fight to prove that their 'bhai' is among the most soft-hearted individuals around. While his hulking personality might be a complete comtrast, the actor's recent interview on YouTube might offer some insights into this contradiction.

In an interview to YouTube sensation, Hanee Chavan, the actor opened up about heartbreak. Speaking about his first crush, the actor said, "I was 16 and there was this girl I really liked, but I could never muster the courage to tell her that. I was scared she would say no. She dated two of my friends and it didn’t work out [with either of them]. She was a friend to me, but never liked me romantically. When others dated her, I was heartbroken. She never got to know of my feelings."

For an actor who reportedly dated beauty pageant winners, Khan came across as quite honest. Speaking about his awkward teenage years, Khan mentioned how he tried to pet the dog of his crush, only to get bitten. Despite his efforts, the girl never returned Khan's feelings. This left him feeling quite 'bummed' as he put it.

The actor also spoke about how he landed his first job in the Campa Cola commercial. A keen swimmer, Khan said he would often practice laps at the Playmate Club in Bandra's Sea Rock Hotel. It was on one such occasion that his efforts to try and impress Aarti Surendranath ended with her then boyfriend, Kailash Surendranath, calling him up for a job in the commercial. Khan said, "If I had not swum on that day, I would not be sitting here." The actor was 16 at the time.

Further in the interview, the actor revealed that he actually wanted to be a director. Khan said, "I never really wanted to be an actor. I wanted to be a director. So whenever I took a script, they would say 'You're too young to direct'. They said it's a really nice script, it is really well written. But they never thought that I had the ability to direct a movie. At that point of time, a movie would cost Rs60 lakh, which was a lot of money."

However, all the producers he met would often say that Salman Khan should be an actor. "So when 25-30 people said that to me, I said 'Fine, I will be an actor," said Khan.

Not a bad decision that. The actor has since gone on to be a part of some of the biggest movies ever made. Now, he is ready to make an appearance in Kabir Khan's Tubelight, which releases on 25 June.
