Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha step into the shoes of Rajesh Khanna and Nanda in the remake of the 1969 film, Ittefaq, produced by BR Studios. The posters of the film were released last night and this morning by the film’s producers and cast. Ittefaq (2017) will be co-produced between Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and BR Studios.

Malhotra is set to play a character accused of the murder of his wife. He shared the first poster of the upcoming film on Twitter with the caption, “Would you believe me if I say it was all just an Ittefaq? Know my story in #Ittefaq”. The poster shows him gazing in disbelief at his hands which are locked in handcuffs.

The film’s leading lady, Sinha, revealed her character’s poster with almost the same caption, promising that “the story unfolds soon”. In the poster, her face is partially hidden as she looks behind a window with a flashlight. In the original film, Rajesh Khanna enters Nanda's home one night and holds her hostage in an attempt to hide from people from a mental hospital, who are looking for him.

The final piece of the Ittefaq puzzle is completed by Akshaye Khanna’s character poster which was revealed by Karan Johar with the caption, “Only HE can divulge if it's an #Ittefaq or not!”. Akshaye will most likely play a character who pursues Sidharth’s character as he escapes from the mental hospital. He can be seen in a determined stance leaning on a table with a light shining towards him in the poster.

The other co-producer Shah Rukh Khan teased the film last night with a poster of Sidharth Malhotra looking distraught, with the words “What exactly happened that night?”. It is another version of Malhotra in handcuffs.

The story of Ittefaq takes place over one night and the original film, directed by Yash Chopra, did not have any songs. This remake will be directed by BR Chopra’s grandson Abhay Chopra, son of filmmaker Ravi Chopra, who has studied filmmaking in New York. Abhay shared a room with actor Ranbir Kapoor when they were both students in the Big Apple.

Ittefaq will be released on 3 November 2017.
