Mohit Marwah stands out in an overall impressive Raag Desh trailer

Tigmanshu Dhulia's next directorial is inspired by the 1945 Red Fort trials.

Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Raag Desh holds promise as it depicts a historical tale that has never been explored before in Hindi cinema. The teaser had made it clear that the film is based on the 1945 Red Fort trials of three Indian soldiers – Gurubaksh Singh Dhillon, Prem Kumar Sahgal and Shah Nawaz Khan who were charged with treason. The makers today released the trailer at the Rajya Sabha today. The film is produced by Rajya Sabha TV.

The near two-and-a-half minute trailer spells out its agenda clearly. While there is bound to be some action, much of the plot revolves around the courtroom drama. Indian National Army soldiers Dhillon (Amit Sadh), Sahgal (Mohit Marwah) and Khan (Kunal Kapoor) are accused of waging war against the British King and charged with murder. The trio is then handed over to the rival Japanese Imperial Army.

The trio’s arrest had created a huge uproar in Indian polity, media and the people slamming the actions of the British Raj.

Among the three, it is Marwah who stands out for his impressive look and appealing voice. Marwah has been around for a while, but Raag Desh has to be the most defining role and film of his career so far.

Dhulia has created an intense trailer that largely stays clears of any jingosim or over-the-top action.

The principal characters and story is well explained. What character is Kanwaljeet Singh playing? Is he playing the role of some famous leader?

The Subhash Chandra Bose angle finds place in the trailer. Also seen in the video is Vijay Verma, who played antagonist Ankit Malhotra in Pink (2016). Looks like he's playing a journalist.

Raag Desh has so far hit the right buzz notes with its impressive teaser and trailer. The film is set to be released on 28 July.
