Despite not-so-impressive box office numbers in the first weekend, there were expectations from Salman Khan’s Tubelight to at least have a decent jump on Eid (yesterday). As the day marks the end of the holy month of fasting, Ramzan, the Muslim population throngs cinema halls.
However, the fil,, directed by Kabir Khan, performed way below expectations on the Eid holiday as it collected only Rs18.50 crore approximately, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. This is lower than its earnings individually on the first three days (Rs20.75 crore, Rs19.75 crore and Rs22.25 crore).
The grand total for Tubelight in the first four days is Rs81.25 crore, which is quite low for a film by Salman. His last three films — Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015) and Sultan (2016) — reached the Rs100-crore mark in the first three days itself.
The film seems to be hit badly by the negative reviews and word-of-mouth. Tubelight’s performance is similar to Salman’s Jai Ho (2014). Jai Ho had also suffered due to the initial negative reactions. It went on to do a lifetime business in India of merely Rs109 crore, approximately.
Tubelight is reportedly made at a budget of around Rs100 crore and this doesn’t include Salman’s fees. While there are no big releases lined up on the coming Friday (30 June), the fate of Tubelight's box office earnings seems grim.
