Box office: Tubelight fares below expectations despite earning 2017's highest opening collections

Salman Khan’s Tubelight recorded highest opening weekend collections of 2017 by earning Rs 62.75 crore in the first three days. The Kabir Khan-directed film collected approximately Rs22 crore on Sunday, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. 

The second and third positions are grabbed by Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees and Akshay Kumar’s Jolly LLB 2, which earned Rs59.48 crore and Rs47.59 crore respectively. SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion made a mammoth Rs127.28 crore in the first three days. But the Prabhas and Rana Daggubati starrer was only dubbed in Hindi. 

Although the numbers for Tubelight sound impressive, they are low for a Salman movie. The film collected Rs20.50-21 crore and Rs19.75 crore on Saturday and Sunday. 

Today being the big Eid holiday, the makers will be hoping for a good jump in collections. The first three days came under the period of Ramazan during which a large amount of Muslim population stays away from cinema halls. 

However, a big jump in collections looks unlikely as the film has been receiving negative reviews and bad word-of-mouth.

Tubelight is reportedly made at a high budget of Rs100 crore. With only Rs62.75 crore in its kitty currently, it doesn’t promise to be a profitable venture like other Salman movies.
