Film critics haven't had the best relationship with Salman Khan over the years. Even then, his last couple of films - Sultan (2016) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) received favourable reviews. But his latest film, Tubelight, which released yesterday, has been universally panned by the critics, and looks like Salman didn't expect any better. Khan made this very clear at a Being Human event last evening.
Taking a potshot at critics, the actor said that he is glad that they have atleast given the rating in positives. “The critics were really good. I was expecting minus three and minus four. They have given 1.5 apparently. So, I am very pleased with that,” he said.
Salman accepted that people are taken by surprise by the film’s content. “People said they can’t see me crying. I asked if people are laughing. I was told, no they are crying. I said, don’t worry about this. It’s an Eid release, so those who like throwing money and dancing, they went to see some other film and they got to see something else,” he added.
The actor also adds a word of caution. “This film needs to be seen not with londe lapades (referring to front benchers). Not with buddies thinking that we would have a blast. They won’t be able to have a blast in this film. It’s a very emotional film. Even a stone-hearted, emotionless person will have tears in the eyes. This is the kind of a film you need to take your families, parents, etc.”
Apart from the critics, the audiences too don't seem to be very thrilled about Tubelight. The film made around Rs21 crore on the first day. Though a decent number, the opening collections of this film are much lower than Salman's releases in the last three years - Sultan (2016), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) and Kick (2014).
