Madhur Bhandarkar's Mumbai Mist is all set to be part of an international collaboration. The short film, directed by Bhandarkar, will be part of an anthology — The Magnificent Five — to be screened at the BRICS International Film Festival in China.
The trailer of the 18-minute film was released today, and shows a sensitive tale of loneliness and an unusual friendship.
Starring Annu Kapoor, Parvin Dabas, and master Devrath, the film seems to tell the story of the lonely lives of aged citizens of Mumbai. Kapoor as a bored veteran manages to strike a unusual, but life affirming friendship with a ragpicking boy on the street. However, as the tagline goes 'time hurts', an accident leaves the veteran setting out on a search for the little boy when he goes missing. The film will probably revolve around this search, and whether he ultimately finds him.
With some beautiful touches, and a portrait of the unique friendships that define the city of Mumbai, Bhandarkar's short film looks quite intriguing.
The anthology will also include short films by Walter Salles (Director of The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)), Chinese director-screenwriter Jia Zhangke (Still Life, 2006), Russian storyteller Aleksey Fedorochenko and South African filmmaker Jahmil XT Qubeka (Of Good Report, 2013). Each film will represent a country from the BRICS union of countries.
The BRICS Film Festival is set to being on 23 June and will conclude on 27 June.
