Box office: Bank Chor fails, Tubelight scores well in advance booking

Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi-starrer Bank Chor has managed only Rs7-7.25 crore approximately in its first week, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

The film, directed by Bumpy and produced under Yash Raj Films’ wing Y-Films, is reportedly made at a budget of Rs15 crore. With such low numbers in the first week, the bank heist saga has turned out to be a loss making venture for the producers. 

Debutant director Abhishek Saxena’s Phullu had also released alongside Bank Chor. The film, which stars Sharib Hashmi in the lead, has been a complete washout at the box office.

Diljit Dosanjh’s Punjabi movie Super Singh has in fact made more money than Bank Chor, which is a pan-India Hindi film. The first Punjabi superhero film has collected Rs9.25-9.50 crore approximately, in the first week. This is the fourth highest first week number for a Punjabi film. 

Irrfan Khan-starrer Hindi Medium made approximately Rs3.25 crore in its fifth week. The film’s grand total now stands at an impressive Rs62.50 crore. 

All eyes are now on Salman Khan’s Tubelight, which released today. The film is expected to bring achhe din (good days) to the Hindi box office. Director Kabir Khan's film has secured the ninth rank in the top 10 highest Hindi advance booking rankings. The first and second rank belong to Baahubali: The Conclusion (2017) and Sultan (2016).
