Saif Ali Khan's upcoming film, Kaalakaandi (2017), is scheduled to be released on 8 September, according to a press statement.
Kaalakaandi deals with the different worlds of Mumbai — the aspiring metropolis and in contrast, its seedy underside that few know of. Writer Akshat Verma is making his directorial debut with this story of six characters from different walks of life that takes place over one monsoon night.
Besides Khan, the film's cast also consists of Deepak Dobriyal, Vijay Raaz, Neil Bhoopalam, Sobhita Dhulipala, Akshay Oberoi, Shenaz Treasury, Isha Talwar, Shivam Patil and Amyra Dastur.
The Omkara actor said in a statement: "Kaalakaandi is a film I'm so happy to be a part of. It's a cross section of Mumbai with underworld goons, doomed bankers and idealistic lovers all mixed together in this karmic tale about love, crime and living a lifetime in one night. Akshat has written and directed this unique movie. He is probably the only voice who tells it exactly like it actually is. Mumbai is a crazy, beautiful city and he is captured it perfectly in this fun and moving film."
Kaalakaandi was written especially for Khan, but the script was developed over two years before he read it and later agreed to the role after five minutes.
The film is produced by Cinestaan Film Company and Ashi Dua Sara of Flying Unicorn.
