Sridevi has confessed that she had reservations over her older daughter, Jhanvi Kapoor, joining films.
Earlier, Saif Ali Khan had also expressed similar thoughts. He said he wished his daughter Sara Ali Khan had chosen a more stable career than acting.
Speaking to Mumbai Mirror tabloid, Sridevi revealed how, as a child, Jhanvi wanted to be a teacher or a doctor. The Mom actress was surprised when her daughter showed an interest in films.
“While we may slog, we’re protective of our children and don’t want to expose them to stress and toil. But a friend’s daughter, who was pushed into marriage early, still complains, even after six years of a happy marriage. I didn’t want Jhanvi to blame me so I gave my consent even though I wish she’d stayed away from this industry, because I didn’t want my child to go through all the pain, sacrifices and heartache,” Sridevi told the tabloid.
Jhanvi was written about recently, wherein reports stated that she had a crush on actor Ranbir Kapoor whom she met at a event. According to her mother, the young girl was left upset with these reports and defended herself.
“But mummy, I was with Gauri aunty (Gauri Shinde, director of English Vinglish)," Jhanvi is said to have told her mother, who said, "Welcome to my world, if you want to be a part of it, you have to be prepared for all this.”
The senior actress even said cheekily that she is now waiting for her younger daughter to give her a shock. “Khushi has already started modelling and it will end up with her saying ‘Mujhe bhi acting karni hai'," added the Mom actress.
Sridevi remained non-committal over whether Jhanvi was making her debut with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year 2.
Sridevi’s Mom is set to be released on 7 July.
