No intercourse, CBFC tells Imtiaz Ali's Jab Harry Met Sejal

Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Pahlaj Nihalani has taken offence to the word 'intercourse' in the trailer of Imtiaz Ali's Jab Harry Met Sejal.

A report in the digital daily Quint quoted Nihalani as saying, "We’ve granted a ‘U/A’ to the trailer on condition of deletion of the dialogue about intercourse. But they have not come back to us with the deletion. So, in principle, the trailer has not been passed yet."

The chairman added that any trailer with the uncensored word 'intercourse' is not permissible on any platform in India.

Speaking about the trailer, already taken up by a couple of news channels, Nihalani said, "We [the CBFC] cannot stop content on the internet. But we can and will stop the broadcast of the uncensored footage on television. The trailer has been picked up from the internet and is being aired on various news channels. This is completely against the law and we plan to take the strictest action against the channels which have aired the censored content from Imtiaz Ali’s film."

In the second mini trailer for the film, Anushka Sharma's character gets Shah Rukh Khan's Harry to sign an 'indemnity bond' freeing him of any legal hassles on account of 'sexual intercourse'.

Nihalani's board has already denied Alankrita Shrivastava's Lipstick Under My Burkha certification on account of 'sexual content'.

Ali's Jab Harry Met Sejal will be released on 4 August.
