It is no secret that film star-turned-MP Vinod Khanna, who died on 27 April, wanted to see his son Sakshi follow in his footsteps and become an actor. The younger Khanna has long been expected to make his debut in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali production. However, a tabloid has now claimed that he might have to wait a while.
Sakshi Khanna had assisted Bhansali on Bajirao Mastani (2015) and was tipped to make his acting debut in a Bhansali prodcution to be helmed by casting director Mukesh Chhabra.
However, Mumbai tabloid Mid-day quoted a source as saying, "He has been debut-ready since last February, when the film was supposed to roll. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra was to direct the romantic musical, but Bhansali is taking his time to decide if he wishes to bank on two newcomers. Since it's an expensive project, the filmmaker wants to take his time."
It may be recalled that the last time Bhansali launched two newcomers in one film, Saawariya (2007), it tanked at the box office. The film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor just could not stand up to the competition from the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Om Shanti Om.
Sakshi is Vinod Khanna's son from second wife Kavita Khanna nee Daftary. His sister is Shraddha while actors Akshaye and Rahul Khanna (born to Vinod Khanna and first wife Gitanjali) are his half-brothers.
