Box office: Bank Chor bags paltry Rs4.40 crore nett in opening weekend

The writing is on the wall. Leave aside minting money, Riteish Deshmukh’s Bank Chor bagged only a few peanuts at the box office. The opening weekend collection of the film stands at a paltry Rs4.40 crore nett, as reported by BoxOfficeIndia.com. The production house had pegged the figure at Rs4.34 crore nett.

Made at a budget of Rs15 crore, Bank Chor released across 700 screens in India.  

As per BoxOfficeIndia.com, Bank Chor had opened with a poor Rs1.40 crore  and it improved marginally to Rs1.65 crore on Saturday. The Sunday collections dropped to Rs1.35 crore. The drop on Sunday, 18 June, was expected as many Indian households preferred to watch the India versus Pakistan final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. Pakistan beat India by 180 runs to win the trophy.

The opening weekend figures of Bank Chor are less than Deshmukh’s last solo lead release Banjo (2016) which had bagged Rs5.41 crore nett. The actor's first project under the Yash Raj Films banner has tanked. The film was produced by Y-Films, a subsidiary of Yash Raj Films.

As compared to Bank Chor, Diljit Dosanjh's Punjabi film Super Singh fared much better, bagging Rs5.70 crore in its opening weekend. The Punjabi film had bagged an opening collection of Rs1.80 crore nett on Friday and followed it up with a collection of Rs2 crore and Rs1.90 crore nett on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

For Bank Chor, it is a difficult task to even recover its cost as come Friday (23 June), Salman Khan’s Tubelight will hit the cinema halls.
