Don 3 is being written, confirms producer Ritesh Sidhwani

After years of ambiguity, we finally have a clear picture about the film.

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani, the co-owner of Excel Entertainment along with Farhan Akhtar, has confirmed that Don 3, the third part in the Don franchise, will be made.

Speaking to an agency, he said, “We are thinking about Don 3 and we are thinking very hard on it. We have found the right idea, it’s being written now. We will make an official announcement soon.”

When asked about the casting and whether Akhtar would return as director with the film, he added, “Wait for the announcement.”

The climax of Don 2 (2011), which was the sequel of Don (2006), gave an indication about the next film in the franchise. The number plate of Shah Rukh Khan’s bike in the scene had the words ‘Don 3’ written on it.

Ever since, there has been keen excitement about the project. However, there has always been suspense over the film. Akhtar and Sidhwani on numerous occasions confirmed the film, but on a few occasions also said the film wouldn't be made.

During an interaction with us earlier this year for his film Raees, Khan, when asked whether Don 3 is in the process, answered, “No, not at all.”

Don was the remake of Chanda Barot’s Don (1978), with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. Khan's version had a huge twist in the end that took the audience by surprise.
