Box office battles are unpredictable. Come 28 July, cousin brothers Arjun Kapoor and Mohit Marwah will be involved in a box office clash. The latter will not just be competing against his cousin, but also his uncle Anil Kapoor. Marwah’s Raag Desh, directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, will clash against the Kapoors' comedy Mubarakan, that is helmed by Anees Bazmee.
Marwah is the maternal grandson of Surinder Kapoor. His mother Reena is the daughter of the late Surinder Kapoor. Surinder Kapoor is Anil Kapoor's father. It is unfortunate the two films will compete against each other.
“Unfortunately, a release date is never in our hands. It’s out of our control. I feel both the films are different. I hope both films their own audiences and both shine bright at the box office,” Marwah told Cinestaan.com.
The clash changes nothing between the two families. Just yesterday Marwah's uncle Anil and cousin Arjun had retweeted the Raag Desh poster.
“Competition doesn’t exist when it comes to people I call my own. Arjun saw the poster and he’s posted a very sweet message on Twitter. We are supporting each other. Let’s hope that both films shine bright at the box-office,” said Marwah.
Marwah is just starting out in his career. Was there a request from any of the production houses to avert the clash?
“There are lot of factors which come into play while deciding the release of a film. You don’t interfere in somebody’s planning of film. If there was enough space and lesser films than everybody would have got a solo release. (Period) after Eid in July is a popular month for move releases. Everyone wants to take leverage of that time. It's the producers who decide on the release," Marwah replied.
Here's wishing that the audience gives a thumbs up to both films.
