Tigmanshu Dhulia has been missing from action for a while, but not for no reason. The director has been busy working on a feature film for RSTV. The first poster of the film was released today.
Starring Kunal Kapoor, Mohit Marwah and Amit Sadh, Raag Desh is based on the 'Red Fort Trial' of the captured soldiers of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's Indian National Army. Kapoor, Sadh and Marwah play Colonel Prem Sehgal, Colonel Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon and Major General Shah Nawaz Khan, respectively. The poster features the three actors along with a whole cast of soldiers set to the backdrop of a bloody battleground. The fallen Union Jack flag is an inference to the freedom struggle that led to this armed uprising.
The film is being produced by national broadcaster, Rajya Sabha Television, along with UFO Moviez. It is also the first of many such projects planned by the broadcaster.
Speaking about the project, Dhulia said, "This was a great opportunity to showcase a very important chapter of independence struggle. It's a film about real life heroes, who fought armed war against the mighty British government. It captures the valour, the camaraderie and the heroic struggles of young men who fought and lost the battle, but won the war of independence for India. It is a one of the most passionate films I have done because I really feel that the nation and the young generation must know about the sacrifices of people for India’s independence. It's a film which will certainly make every Indian proud of their legacy."
The film will focus mainly on the courtroom drama of the trial which was considered to be one of the pivotal moments in the final stages of the British empire in India.
Raag Desh is set to be released on 28 July.
