Raees and Kaabil actor Narendra Jha stars in a mature love story, Viraam

Narendra Jha became a known face after his fine act as Shahid Kapoor’s father in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider (2014). Earlier this year, he was involved in two big films that had clashed at the box office, Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees and Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil.

He is now starring in a mature love story titled Viraam by debutant director Ziaullah Khan. The film was recently premiered at Cannes. “I am playing the character of an industrialist, whose wife has died. The film is about how he meets someone after that and how things go forward. I think the USP of this film is its subject and performances. The locations are beautiful. These are the things that would attract you. It’s a mature love story. It has a lot of twists and turns that will keep you excited,” he said, while speaking exclusively with Cinestaan.com.

When asked whether life has changed after Raees and Kaabil, he said, “No, my approach is the same. My method of working is the same.” He gets a lot of offers, but he doesn’t easily agree for a film.

“I never instantly agree to do any film. I wish to know the subject and my character in detail. Until I don’t get a proper idea about these things, I don’t agree. I have rejected many films. There are people who don’t reveal the character in entirety. I say no to them. Later on I get to know that some refuse to disclose the character because the character has nothing much to do in the story,” he said, adding that now he has stopped receiving such offers as the producers seem to have understood it. “In a way, it is relief for me,” he said.

Jha added that he is ready to do good roles even if it means doing a small budget film. “I get offers from producers whose budget isn’t much but their subjects are beautiful. I like working in such an environment. I don’t consider whether it is a big budget film or a small budget film. I only look at the subject and content,” he added.

Jha lost his father while shooting for Viraam last year. But he didn’t took a break from shooting the film.

The film stars Urmila Mahanta opposite him. She played the antagonist in Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira last year. She will also be seen in Majid Majidi’s Beyond The Clouds and Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.
