Salman Khan plays down his earnings listed by Forbes magazine

Call it his modesty or that’s just the way he is. Salman Khan has never bragged about his success or philanthropy. Salman made it to the list of world's richest celebrities, but doesn't give two hoots about it. On the contrary, Salman has expressed surprise at finding his name in the list of Forbes magazine’s top 100 richest celebrities in the world.

The Forbes list that was released a few days ago, had placed Salman at the 71st position with earnings of $37 million (approximate Rs246 crore at current exchange rate). Shah Rukh Khan was the highest earning Indian celebrity with earnings of $38 million (Rs248 crore), while Akshay Kumar was third with earnings of $35.5 million (Rs235 crore). These figures cover the earnings from 1 June 2016 to 1 June 2017.

Salman, though, has downplayed the numbers saying that he’s not amongst the highest paid actors in Hindi cinema.

“It is wrong to say that I’m the highest paid actor in the industry. There are many actors who earn much more than me. Their films do much better business than my films,” Salman told NavbharatTimes.com.

Apart from Baahubali, the only actor whose films have earned more than Salman’s is Aamir Khan. The latter’s last Hindi film, Dangal (2016), had set a record Rs374 crore nett domestic collection before it was broken by the Hindi version of Baahubali that went on to make over Rs500 crore nett.  
Salman’s last release Sultan (2016) had grossed just over Rs300 crore in domestic collections. Aamir’s earlier film, Pk (2014), had bagged Rs340 crore nett, while Salman’s most successful film is Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) which bagged Rs331 crore nett.

Salman’s next Tubelight will be released on 23 June.
