It seems Salman Khan’s keenly awaited Tubelight may not be released in Pakistan. The actor has a huge fan following across the border. Ironically, it is this fan base that has proved to be an obstacle for the film’s release.
Two big Pakistani films, Yalghaar and Shor Sharaba, are scheduled for an Eid release. As Tubelight is also releasing simultaneously, it is likely to take the audience away from the two Pakistani films due to Salman’s popularity.
Hirachand Dand, president of The Indian Film Exporters Association, told a publication, “Salman has millions of fans in Pakistan and the filmmakers are in no mood to pitch their films against his. They are determined to protect the interests of their films instead.”
He also said that there were initial speculations that the film will see a delayed release after two weeks. But, as per reports, that possibility is now ruled out due to the price factor.
But Pakistani distributor, Amjad Rashi, believes that the supposedly anti-China sentiments showed in Tubelight might also affect the film. “Salman is no doubt a big star in Pakistan but the film could also face other hurdles as it reflects anti-China sentiments,” he told a publication.
Meanwhile, COO of Salman Khan Films, Amar Butala, has stated that they will try their best to release the film in Pakistan but will also respect a decision taken othersise. “Salman Khan Films is committed to taking Tubelight to markets across the globe with our overseas distributors Yash Raj Films. Salman has a huge following in Pakistan, which has only grown with Bajrangi Bhaijaan. We hope to release Tubelight in Pakistan as well, and our efforts continue in that direction, but we respect the law of the land and judiciary if they decide otherwise.”
It is said that a lot of money is riding on both Yalghaar and Shor Sharaba. Yalghaar is touted to be Pakistan’s first international film. It is based on the sacrifices by armed forces and general public while fighting terrorism. Shor Sharaba, on the other hand, is a romantic drama.
