The first look of Neil Nitin Mukesh from Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar is out. The actor plays the late politician Sanjay Gandhi in the film and has perfected the look.
This doesn’t come as a surprise though. A movie still featuring him and Supriya Vinod, who plays Indira Gandhi in the film, had released earlier this year. The picture featured both Neil and Supriya looking exactly like Sanjay and Indira Gandhi.
In his last two films, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015) and Wazir (2016), the actor has played the antagonist.
The latest poster from Bhandarkar's film also has Indira’s character looming in the background. This time around, the actress' resemblance to the former prime minister is even more remarkable. It is not the first time that Supriya is playing Indira’s character. The actress has portrayed the same role on stage in the Marathi play, Indira.
The main lead in Indu Sarkar, however, is played by Kirti Kulhari. She plays a stammering poet who goes onto become a rebel leader.
While the political subtext of the film has ignited curiosity, it remains to be seen if it will spell good fortune for its director. Madhur Bhandarkar has been in search of a hit for quite some time. His last film was Calendar Girls (2015), which bombed at the box office. He recently received the Bharat Gaurav Award at the United Nations (UN) Hall in New York. He dedicated the award to the Indian armed forces.
Indu Sarkar is expected to release in theatres on 28 July.
