Over the last couple of years, Salman Khan has started following the path of script-based films. His last few films, Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015) and Sultan (2016), have indicated this. His upcoming film, Kabir Khan's Tubelight, which will be released this month, is also one such example.
During an event yesterday, Salman highlighted the importance of a story in a film. He said, “I am the son of a writer, and I understand that you will need a good script and even if the making is not so great, the film does well because people can follow the story. But when there is no story and only style in the making, the film tends to get off the screens sooner because the audience does not find any story to link to in the movie.”
He also added that script matters more than the treatment. “It is crucial that the audience connects with the emotion in the film. We all assume that when we sign a movie, it will turn out to be a Sholay or a Mughal-E-Azam. The base of a great film is the story and not just the treatment,” he said.
While highlighting the importance of writing, the actor also divulged the entire plot of his upcoming film with choreographer-turned-director Remo D’Souza. “I have a superb script as a dancer, in which I have the most incredible character of a father to a nine-year-old. It is a different kind of a film. He doesn’t want to be a dancer, but his daughter is a dancer and she falls ill and she enrols his name into the competition. He had promised his dead wife that whatever the little girl wants, he will fulfil. So, he says, ‘my daughter wants it, I am going to dance properly,’” said Salman.
D’Souza had recently revealed that the schedule of the film, which is yet untitled, will be decided once Salman winds up the promotions of Tubelight.
