15 years of Devdas: Shah Rukh-Aishwarya-Madhuri film to be released in 3D

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali confirms that his 2002 magnum opus will be screened in the 3D format.

If you have loved Devdas (2002), then it is time to welcome the film back. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2002 magnum opus is set to be released in 3D when the film completes 15 years on 12 July. Bhansali's Devdas had Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles. The film is adapted from Sarath Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic novel of the same.

“When I was finally convinced about the 3D version of Devdas, I wanted to make sure that every frame conveyed just the right proportions and dimensions. I realised that much of my film was originally shot with a lot of depth in the frames. That, in fact, made Devdas an ideal candidate for the 3D format,” Bhansali told DNA newspaper.

Back then, Bhansali’s Devdas was said to be the most expensive Indian film, made at a budget of Rs50 crore. The film was widely appreciated for its opulence, expensive costumes and ornaments, worn by its leading heroines. It was a visual treat in the true sense.

The film won many awards, sweeping the main categories at the Filmfare Awards – Best Film, Best Director for Bhansali, and acting honours for Khan, Rai Bachchan and Dixit (supporting actress).
