Box office: Raabta does poorly on opening day, Behen Hogi Teri is a washout

Two Hindi films released yesterday, but they have brought no change to the dry situation at the box office. Producer Dinesh Vijan’s directorial debut Raabta didn’t perform well on the opening day as it earned only Rs4.75 crore, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com. 

The number might sound decent for a film with moderate budget. But the Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon starrer is an expensive film. It is reportedly made at a cost of around Rs55 crore. Now that it hasn’t made a good number on the first day, it needs to make a massive jump on Saturday and Sunday to minimise the losses. But going by the unanimously negative reviews and word-of-mouth, it appears unlikely. 

Another debutant director, Ajay Pannalal’s Behen Hogi Teri is a complete washout. The Rajkumar Rao starrer has managed a mere Rs25-30 lakh on its opening day. Although it is reportedly made a low cost of Rs15 crore, the first day numbers have ensured that it has no chance to emerge victorious at the box office. 

The fact that tomorrow is India’s knock-out cricket match against South Africa will further affect both the films. 

The Hollywood movie The Mummy, which stars Tom Cruise, has managed an average opening of around Rs3.50 crore. The adult certificate given to it seems to be one of the reasons for the number not being impressive, apart from the bad reviews the film has got.
