Sridevi’s much anticipated Mom has opened to a low number at the box office on its opening day. The Ravi Udyawar directed film collected Rs2.50 crore on day one, yesterday, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
Although the numbers are not impressive, the film still has a chance of scoring well in the weekend as its word-of-mouth and reviews have been encouraging.
The same had happened with Sridevi’s last release English Vinglish (2012). The film had opened to only Rs2.25 crore, but went on to become a big success due to the positive word-of-mouth. The same trend was seen this year too with Irrfan Khan starrer Hindi Medium, which had also earned Rs2.50 crore on the day of release.
But with the budget of Mom being quite high (the actual numbers are unavailable at this point), recovering investments seems like an uphill battle for the makers.
Guest Iin London, which released alongside Mom, fared much worse with an opening total of only Rs1.25 crore approximately. Surprisingly, it scored more than Mom in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as it got a wider release.
But considering its total on the first day and the negative word-of-mouth, the Kartik Aaryan and Paresh Rawal starrer hardly has any chance of growing over the weekend.
Yesterday also saw the release of the Hollywood film, Spider-Man: Homecoming. Its first day total of Rs6.50 crore is much higher than the combined total of Mom and Guest Iin London.
