She is yet to make her formal debut in cinema, but Jhanvi Kapoor has already proved that she has an eye for talent. The young woman was instrumental in the casting of Pakistani actor Adnan Siddqui in Mom, which stars her mother Sridevi.

Adnan Siddiqui

“Jhanvi is the one who recommended Adnan Siddiqui's name while we were casting," director Ravi Udyawar told the IANS news agency. "We were looking for somebody for a father's role and Jhanvi said, 'I've seen this actor called Adnan Siddiqui, who has done A Mighty Heart (2007) with Angelina Jolie. I had also watched that film, so I looked him up and we cast him in the film.”

Siddiqui isn’t the only Pakistani actor in Mom, with GenNext actress Sajal Ali playing Sridevi’s daughter in the suspense thriller.

“It was amazing working with them [Adnan and Sajal], they are fine actors," said Udyawar. "It was important to cast the daughter as she had to connect well with Sridevi's character. They have done a brilliant job."

Mom is Sridevi’s 300th film and first-time director Udyawar said he was enriched by the experience of working with her. "It is her 300th film and my first one, there was a lot of responsibility looking at the kind of work she has done. Yes, there was pressure on me, but working with her is amazing. After all these years, even now when she comes on set, she is like a newcomer — as if she is starting it again. She is really excited and enthusiastic about scenes and tries to push her limits as an actress. That's something we can learn from her.”

Mom is set to be released on 7 July. You can try predicting the film's box-office performance here.
