In April, we had reported that Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan were set to feature in Honey Trehan’s directorial debut film based on the life of Sapna Didi, the woman who set out to kill gangster Dawood Ibrahim, India’s most wanted criminal.
It is now confirmed that Padukone will play Sapna Didi while Irrfan Khan will also play a pivotal role. The film is expected to go on the floors by the end of the year and is scheduled to be released on 2 October 2018.
Trade analyst Komal Nahta tweeted about the release date of the as yet untitled project.

Vishal Bhardwaj has penned the script but Trehan, who assisted him on films like Omkara (2006) and Kaminey (2009), will take over the megaphone.
Sapna Didi apparently took up guns to avenge the death of her husband, gangster Mehmood Kalia, who was killed on Dawood Ibrahim's order. Sapna Didi even travelled to Sharjah for the hit, but the gangster got wind of her move and eliminated her.
“Sapna Didi had no criminal background," Isaq Bagwan, a former assistant commissioner of police in Mumbai, had told Pakistani website Dawn.com in 2014. "She took to crime only after her husband was killed. She even became a police informer in an attempt to keep tabs on Dawood’s businesses. Such was her determination to take revenge.”
This is a maiden collaboration between Padukone and Bhardwaj while the actress reunites with her Piku (2015) co-star Irrfan Khan.
