The political controversy hasn't helped the Madhur Bhandarkar directorial either.

Anees Bazmee’s Mubarakan opened to a poor number of Rs5 crore on Friday. The Arjun Kapoor and Anil Kapoor starrer saw huge growth as the weekend progressed. It made Rs7.25 crore on Saturday, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The numbers shot up on Sunday significantly through some good word-of-mouth - earning a whopping Rs10.25 crore, double of what it bagged on Friday. The film's total earning stands at Rs22.50 crore.
However, despite the positive jump, Mubarakan still doesn’t find itself in safe waters. The sole reason is the film's reported budget of Rs70 crore. As the film has earned much less than half its cost in the first three days, it faces a difficult road ahead. The film’s fate now depends on what it earns today on its first weekday.
Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar hasn't fared well either. After making Rs85 lakh on Friday and Rs1.05 crore on Saturday, its Sunday figure closed at Rs1.35 crore. The film's weekend total stands only at Rs3.25 crore. The Kirti Kulhari might find it hard to recover in the new week.
Based on the Emergency of 1975-77, Indu Sarkar has been in the news constantly for offending the Congress party for allegedly showing its leaders Indira Gandhi, India’s ex Prime Minister and her son Sanjay Gandhi, in wrong light. However, even after the Bharatiya Janata Party promoted the film, it hasn’t created the required buzz.
