VIP 2 Lalkar trailer: Kajol delivers punchline, but Dhanush is still the hero

The promotions for Dhanush and Kajol's upcoming Tamil film Velai Illa Pattadhaari (VIP 2) have already begun. The film will be simultaneously released in Hindi and Tamil on 28 July. The makers of the film released a Hindi version of the trailer today.

While not very different from its Tamil counterpart, the film, titled VIP 2 Lalkar in Hindi, has a slightly larger role for Kajol. The actress will be making a return to Tamil cinema after 25 years as the corporate powerhouse, Vasundhara, opposite Dhanush's Raghuvaran in the film. The trailer sees a now unemployed Raghuvaran struggling to rebuild his life after losing his job. Just as he appears to have found his feet as an architect, he runs into the power of Vasundhara (Kajol). The two lock horns over a project.

Kajol delivers her lines with more punch than Dhanush in the trailer. Her familiarity with the Hindi language only adds more punch to her moments on screen. Dhanush, meanwhile, is quite competent as the underdog fighting his own battle. In true hero style, he delivers some sleek comebacks and kicks to boot.

Initially scheduled to release on 28 July, the film has now been postponed due to 'inevitable reasons'. In a tweet on 20 July, director Soundarya Rajinikanth wrote 'I extend my regrets to inform all Dhanush sir fans and cinema lovers that VIP2 release is being pushed to the first half of August due to inevitable reasons. Thanks for all the patience and understanding. Will announce the confirmed release date very soon.'
