Besides the upcoming Sui Dhaaga (2018) with Anushka Sharma for Yash Raj Films, Varun Dhawan is teaming up with filmmaker Shoojit Sircar for his next production titled October. The distinct love story will feature Dhawan in the lead, but no co-star has been finalised as yet.
Writer Juhi Chaturvedi, who has earlier collaborated with Sircar, on Vicky Donor (2012) and Piku (2015), will write the screenplay for the film. Both films were honoured at the National Awards. Chaturvedi revealed, that like her previous work, this story too, will draw from every day life.
She said, “The effort is always to find insightful and charming nuances in what seems the obvious. With Shoojit’s innate ability to steer the story in a way that creates poignant and compelling moments out of simple situations of life, I am hoping this time too we create something people find a connect with and make their own.”
While his previous films have dealt with unusual subjects from a civil war to the close relationship between a father and his daughter, Sircar was excited about exploring a love story for his next.
In a statement, the director said, “It is a genre that I have always wanted to delve in. While love and romance have been entwined with Indian cinema, there is abundance in that emotion that everyone can have their own interpretations of. Juhi and I have always tried to create stories from the reflections of real life moments that we see around us. October is another effort to explore those moments out of simple situations of life.”
Dhawan, too, shared his excited to work with Sircar for the first time. He stated, “October is a beautiful story in which I play a character with many layers. It's a difficult character to play. I just want to surrender to my part and show people a new side of me.” The two have already had discussions over the script.
October will be produced by Rising Sun Films. Producer Ronnie Lahiri, who has worked with Chaturvedi and Sircar on Vicky Donor, Madras Cafe (2013), Piku (2015) said, “At Rising Sun Films, our endeavour has always been to create stories that are simple, connect with the audience and stay with them. October will hopefully be one more step in that direction.”
The film is expected to begin shooting this September.
